Sony has unveiled two new hybrid cameras in the APS C format, the Sony A6600, and A6100. Their strong point? Their speed! Almost 3 years after the A6500 was announced, Sony introduced its successor, the A6600, and also took the opportunity to unveil the A6100. These are two hybrid APS C format cases, compatible with its E mount, worthy heirs, to the NEX range of the time.
Speed and Automation In The Spotlight
Let’s start with the A6600. It is a small 120.0 x 66.9 x 69.3 mm camera for 503 grams with a 24.2 Megapixel Exmor CMOS sensor combined with Sony’s latest image processing processor, the Bionz X.
Like the previous model, it offers 5 axis sensor stabilization but features an ultra-fast autofocus system that can focus on a target in 0.02 seconds. In addition, like the brand’s best cameras, it is equipped with a real-time AF system with the subject and eye tracking.
Sony also took the opportunity to upgrade to Z battery and upgrade to its latest devices. On paper, this should allow it to double the range compared to the A6500 and increase to 700 to 800 trips. The A6100 is more in the mid range segment and features its older brother’s 24.2 Megapixel sensors and the Bionz X processor.
However, its stabilization is based on the objectives and no longer on the sensor. It should also be noted that its autofocus has been greatly improved compared to the A600 with 425 focus points by phase detection and 425 by contrast detection.
We Will See In October
The Sony A6100 and A6600 will both be available in October at prices of €900 and €1600 respectively for bare cases. Lens packs will also be available, increasing the price to €2000 for the A6600 with an 18 to 135 mm and €1000 for the A6100 with a 16 to 50 mm.
